I was recently listening to "Sweetest Thing" on my IPhone/IPod and as the song ended I could not help but go into deep thought and ask, what happened to this soulful woman. I immediately began researching different periods throughout her career and personal life and attempted piece together half a theory.
I began my research from her debut on Amateur Night at the Apollo to her on screen feature in the movie Sister Act 2, to her thrust in to stardom with the hiphop/neosoul group The Fugees. I notice a transformation from a girl to a woman who embodied an unquestionable talent the world hungered for. But her fall from the spotlight into seclusion and into an adulterous relationship with her alleged husband Rohan Marley, made her songs of inspiration and pride a fabrication in every lyric.
"Oddly enough, she lists her self as Lauryn Hill-Marley on Myspace and he has moved to Ethiopia and continues to list himself as single."
It's seems she gave her all to someone who may not do the same. That's unfortunate, I guess loving someone else before loving yourself can drive you crazy like that.

In reference to her music...
In my opinion, Lauryn discovered a place that many of us can't imagine to understand, therefore she seems strange to us. But to be honest I believed she did it on purpose to feed the 'Hollywood Machine' with exactly what they wanted. That my dear is a plastic persona, giving people what they want instead of what they need, and only follow the money and not your heart.
